My public speaking journey
An example of a Growth Mindset
When somebody asks me what is that one skill I have acquired after I landed into a leadership role, I say it instantly without giving a thought, “it’s public speaking.”
I remember back in my school days when I was in the nursery standard, I experienced tremendous stage fear. I don’t know how it came, but it came. So that evening during the annual function at the school premises, when everybody was busy enjoying the show, I was crying like crazy. I never wanted to go on the stage to perform my part in the drama.
That was the first and last stage performance in my school. After that, I never showed interest in taking part in drama or any stage performance. Actually, nobody was even interested to give me a chance.
Years passed by, I got busy with studies, work, life and completely ignored that I had this limitation. Also, at the same time, I never showed any interest or willingness to work towards overcoming it.
But then, I had to. So it was back in 2017 when I started as a Design Leader in a healthtech company, I knew I had to address this limitation. Because since you are the face of your team and everyone looks up to you for answers, you must face the audience, you must answer to queries, and you must question the status quo.
